Problems with my Canon EOS 40D
So my Canon EOS 40D started to behave a bit strange recently.
I'd done a portrait shoot of some new colleagues at work and had no problems.
2 days later I wanted to take some pics at home and as soon as I pressed the shutter, the mirror flipped up and the camera turned off. I mean shut down completely, with no way to switch it on again.
Removing the battery and putting it back in, the camera would turn on again and the mirror flip down. A search on the issue revealed that others had had the same problem and that in most cases I could find it was a shutter replacement.
I handed it in for repair, and today Visual-Service rang to tell me that they'd fixed it. Turns out there are two small motors in the camera, controlling the mirror. One of them had a problem turning over and the other had died completely. Both have been replaced and they gave the camera a clean at the same time.
Magic. Now I can take pictures on our upcoming fishing trip to Funen.
First time on the coast this year…yeah
Managed to have 1 hour on the coast near our house weekend before last.
Our daughter Minna was asleep and so was the wife, so escaped into a light dusty rain and windstill day with absolute silence on the coast.
My camera is broken, so naturally couldn't take any pictures. Regardless, the first time out and only 1 hour, I wanted to focus on the fishing. I started out with double fly on a bombarda intermediate. I then changed over to a Filur with a Mickey Finn chaser fly.
Needless to say, I caught nothing. Didn't even feel or spot any fish. I did meet another fisherman who'd caught 3 trout just over the minimum of 40cm that morning, so the fish are there. Only 10 minutes from our house.
Hoping to get out again soon, but when choosing between spending time with my wife and 4month old daughter, and fishing - I choose family time these days. At least until my daughter is a bit older.
